A kiosk will not sign in

Kiosks

Almost every case is one of four things. Work down the list — they are ordered by how common they are.

1. The session simply expired

Kiosk sessions last 12 hours. A device that has been on overnight will ask for its credentials again in the morning. Enter them and it carries on.

2. Somebody re-rolled the password

Re-rolling a kiosk password signs out every device using it, immediately and by design — that is what makes it useful when a tablet goes missing. If a kiosk stopped working the moment somebody was doing admin, this is why. Check the activity log to see who and when.

3. Too many failed attempts

After five wrong passwords in a row, Entris starts making you wait — 15 seconds, then 30, doubling up to a maximum of 15 minutes. The screen tells you how long. The wait clears on its own, and it only affects signing in: a kiosk that is already signed in keeps working throughout.

4. It is the network

Entris needs a connection. If the kiosk shows a loading state that never resolves, check the tablet is on your Wi-Fi before assuming the kiosk is at fault.

During an emergency

Kiosks deliberately refuse sign-ins while a roll call is running. That is not a fault — it is what keeps the register still while you count.
